Redbird Soccer to Take on Eastern Illinois

Illinois States womens soccer team will face the Eastern Illinois Panthers in Charleston on Monday, September 1 at 4 p.m. We played some of the best soccer weve played so far against Green Bay, head coach Pete Kowall said. Hopefully we can continue that type of play against Eastern. Were looking forward to a good competitive game. The Redbirds, who are 1-0, are coming off a 2-0 season opening win at University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. Junior Michelle Brumbaugh scored both goals for the Birds, the second off an assist from freshman Crystal Lanski. Eastern Illinois, who is also 1-0, opened their season at home on Friday against Western Illinois. The Panthers came away with a 6-0 victory. Last season, the Panthers were Ohio Valley Conference champions and merited a 12-8-2 overall record. They ended the campaign with a 2-1 triple-overtime loss to Purdue University in the first round of the NCAA College Cup. August 30, 2002 was the last time the Redbirds took on the Panthers. Illinois State won 2-1 in overtime. It was the season opener for both teams.
