Redbirds Split Squad to Start Fall Season

Liina Suurvarik, standout senior for the Illinois State womens tennis team, needs just three more victories to become the Redbirds all-time career leader in singles victories. Suurvarik will lead a split squad into the first tournament of the fall season, as the Birds compete in the Mizzou Four-Way Tournament in Columbia, Mo., this Friday. Suurvarik, Laura Gravino, Emilie Sechaud and Katri Miller will all compete in the Mizzou Four-Way, against Missouri, Kansas and Murray St. Senior Elizabeth Bingier will take Dasha Cizkova, Ashley Maxwell, Michelle Rabinovich, and Matea Simovic to the St. Louis University Invite on Friday. The Birds will take on St. Louis, Eastern Illinois and Northern Illinois at the St. Louis Invite. Head coach Chris Hoover split the squad so each player will be able to get some playing time. Whats nice about splitting the squads is that it will allow each player to get some playing time over the weekend, Hoover said. There will be top competition at Missouri that will present a challenge to our players going there. The Mizzou Four-Way begins Friday at 9:00 a.m., and runs through Sunday at the Green Tennis Center in Columbus Mo. The St. Louis University Invite begins Friday at 9:00 a.m. and goes through Saturday at the Billiken Tennis Center in St. Louis Mo. -- ### --
