Maskel and Birds Look for Another Win at Kansas Invitational

Looking to build off a first-place finish in the D.A. Weibring, Matt Maskel and Illinois State mens golf team head to Lawrence, Kansas for the Kansas Invitational at Alvamar Golf Club on Sept. 22 and Sept. 23. This tournament has traditionally been difficult for the Birds, but head coach Harland Kilborn feels this year the Birds are up to the challenge. We have never had a team with this much depth, Kilborn said. The guys are peaking at a perfect time. Competing in the tournament will be senior Brian Anderson, juniors Kyle Vasel and Dustin Edwards, along with sophomores Matt Maskel and Kris Wildenradt. The Birds will be competing against four Missouri Valley Conference teams, Drake, Southwest Missouri State, Northern Iowa and Wichita State, the defending Valley champions. The field is highlighted by host Kansas, North Texas and Houston. The Birds are set to tee off for 36 holes on Monday with an 8 a.m. shotgun start, and 18 holes on Tuesday with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
