The Illinois State womens golf team is tied for seventh place after the first two rounds of the Mary Fossum Invitational in East Lansing, Mich. The Redbirds shot a 311 in round one and followed with a 315 in round two good for a two round total of 626.
Sophomore Samantha Richdale is tied for sixth place in the individual standings. Richdale carded a 74 in the first round and an 77 in round two to post a 151 on the par 72, 6,053-yard Forest Akers Golf Course.
Finishing behind Richdale in a tie for 24th place was Ashlee Johnson with a 155 (75,79). Ashlie Rose (83,78) and Hilary Anderson (79,82) are both tied for 47th place each shooting a 161, while Chelsea Bach is in a tie for 56th place with a 163 (82,81).
Head Coach
Ray Kralis feels that the team is in a good position heading into the final round.
Weve gotten ourselves in a good position today, Kralis said. We stand just four shots out of second place and are in a good spot to make a move tomorrow.
The host Spartans lead the invitational with a two round total of 601. The University of Indiana and Arkansas are tied for second place, while Kansas sits alone in fourth and Notre Dame and Kent State are tied for fifth.
Tied in seventh along with the Birds are Illinois and Wisconsin. Michigan, Toledo, and Western Michigan sit 10-12, while the University of Ohio, Eastern Michigan, and Southern Methodist share 13th place. Marshall rounds out the field of 16.
Kralis is confident heading into the final round.
We are due for a hot round, Kralis said. Tomorrow should be a fun day.
