Despite senior Brian Andersons seventh place finish, the Illinois State mens golf team only managed a 12th place finish at the Kansas Invitational in Lawrence, Kan. Tuesday.
Anderson continued to excel in the final round of the tournament taking seventh place after clubbing a 219 in three rounds.
Head coach Harland Kilborn was pleased with Andersons consistent achievement, but felt the Birds play was dissapointing overall.
Brian put together some solid rounds, he just needed more support from the team, Kilborn said.
The Birds struggled to provide the support as Kyle Vasel (77-75-75=227) tied for 50th and Kris Wildenradt (77-77-74=228) tied for 54th. Matt Maskel (74-74-82=230) and Dustin Edwards (77-76-77=230) placed 64th.
The Birds finished 12th with a team score of 894. Kansas, the tounament host, won the tournament after shooting a 855, followed by second place North Texas (872) and third place Wichita State (876).
The Birds final tournament for the fall is Oct. 6-7 at the Sangri La Shootout in Tulsa, Okla.
