Liina Suurvarik will be looking to add on to her all-time career singles victories when the Illinois State womens tennis team travels to Tulsa, Okla., for the 2003 Polo Tennis National Collegiate Preview on Friday, September 26.
Suurvarik set a new mark for career singles victories for the Redbirds when she downed Missouris Katka Sevcikova, 6-5, 6-3, at the Mizzou Four-Way, September 13. Suurvariks win was her 101 career singles victory in her outstanding career as a Bird. Suurvarik, who heads to the tournament as the highest ranked player at No. 30, will face stiff competition from Oklahomas No. 40 ranked player Anda Perianu.
Host school Tulsa University will have fellow Missouri Valley Conference rival Southwest Missouri State, Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas Tech at the Polo Tennis National.
Head coach Chris Hoover feels the Redbirds should put together a strong outing at the tournament.
This tournament has put together some strong teams for us to go against, Hoover said. We have been practicing real well lately and I think we can be one of the top programs featured at this tournament.
The 2003 Polo Tennis National Collegiate Preview begins Friday, September 26, at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla.
