Ben Pettinari led the ways for the Illinois State mens tennis team moving into the semifinals of the Ball State Invitational.
In flight B singles Pettenari finished off Bradleys Wil Lofgren, 6-0, 2-6, 6-3, after the match was postponed on Friday due to rain. In the quarterfinals Pettinari dropped Toledos Tony Tran in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4.
In flight A singles, Ben Cappuccitti did not fair as well as he did Friday, falling to Butlers Kevin Gill, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2. In the consolation round Djordie Uskovic moved to the semifinals by downing Ball States Matt Laramore, 6-4, 7-6.
In flight C consolation singles, freshman Alfredo Lagarda moved onto the semifinals after he downed Northern Illinois Marijan Panzic. In flight D singles, Tim Link, Bloomington High School alum, moved on to the semifinals after dropping Xaviers Brad Meadors, 4-6, 7-5, 6-2. Guillermo Gomez also moved on to the semifinals in flight D singles, after ousting Northern Illinois Ryan Schnack, 6-0, 6-3.
The Birds return to the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center and Woodworth Tennis Courts for the completion of Ball State Invitational on Sunday at 9 a.m.
