Illinois State to Meet the Panthers

Illinois State will head north to take on the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Panthers on Sunday in a 10 a.m. match-up. This game will be a good test for us, head coach Pete Kowall said. Itll be a good game because they always have a good team. Theyre well-coached and disciplined. Really these next four games will be a good stretch for us. The Birds are 2-0 on the season, with wins against University of Wisconsin-Green Bay and Eastern Illinois. On Tuesday, Illinois State defeated Eastern Illinois 1-0 in its surprise home opener. Illinois State junior forward Michelle Brumbaugh was named Missouri Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week, Tuesday. She came off the bench to score two goals in the Redbirds season opening 2-0 victory at Green Bay. UW-Milwaukee enters the game with an 0-3 record. The Panthers were shutout in contests against Dayton, Vanderbilt and Kansas. Last year, UW-Milwaukee was 11-6-5 and won the Horizon League Championship, earning a trip to the NCAA College Cup. The last meeting of these two teams was on September 29, 2001 and Illinois State fell 2-1. The Birds are 2-4 overall against the Panthers.
