Stevenson Recovering From Surgery

Guard Sara Stevenson is already on the road to recovery from her Jan. 9 knee surgery. The sophomore guard from Olney, Ill., was back in class on Monday after beginning her rehabilitation over the weekend. Stevensons surgery, performed by Dr. Rob Seidl, repaired a torn meniscus in her left knee. Redbird basketball athletics trainer Yvonne Logan was happy that the surgery found and revealed nothing unexpected. They found what they thought they would find, said Logan, who indicated Stevenson could be back on the court by this summer. Dr. Seidl said there were no surprises. She was able to attend classes (the semester began Monday) and already has started rehab. Stevenson, a former Illinois Miss Basketball Finalist at Olney High School, was a starter as a freshman for Illinois State last season. Last year, she had the lowest turnover-per-minute played ratio in the Valley. This season, she was one of the Redbirds busiest players off the bench, averaging 2.5 points per game in four games before the injury. The Redbirds, 8-5, open a three-game homestand at 7:05 p.m. Friday vs. Evansville at Redbird Arena.
