The Redbird swimming and diving team opened its two-day competition at the Bill Ritter Invitional Friday morning with solid swims and a whole-team effort. The Birds sit in third place after day one, with hopes of moving up on day two.
Kyle Pullman and Monique Witkowski finished second and third in the 50 freestyle, with times of 25.00 and 25.35, respectively. Katie Finan placed second in the 200 IM with a time of 2.14.08, while Jamie Haseman contributed with a fourth-place finish in the 500 freestyle (5.18.62).
Head coach
Steve Paska was positive about the teams performance, and optimistic for the remaining day of competition. The Birds 200 freestyle relay of Pullman, Finan, Stefanie Starck and Witkowski recorded a time of 1.41.07 to finish second.
We swam well today, consistent with last weeks times, said Paska. We have a big day still ahead and I expect another total team effort.
As a team, the Birds sit in third-place through five events, behind host Wisconsin-Milwaukee in second and Wisconsiin-Green Bay in first.
Swimming action continues on the Wisconsin-Milwaukee campus at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, with finals at 3:30 p.m. Diving scores for the meet had not yet been compiled at the time of release.
