The Illinois State swimming and diving team is set for its last home meet of the season, which is also its last dual meet before the Valley Championship. The team will honor its seniors in the 11 a.m. contest, against the Phoenix of Wisconsin-Green Bay.
Seniors Sara Groves, Heather Norris, Dana Rosinski, Julie Schultz, Stefanie Starck and Dede Woytowych will be recognized before competing in their last home meet in a Redbird swim suit. Head coach
Steve Paska expects the meet to have an added emotional boost as the six seniors compete in Horton Pool for the last time.
Senior day is always an emotional day, said Paska. These seniors have given so much to this program and to this team, and will be sorely missed next year. Im looking forward to seeing how the team responds to the emotion in the meet tomorrow.
The Birds will face tough competition from the Phoenix, whom Paska explained are a tough group of competitors and a tough team to beat.
Wisconsin-Green Bay has a quality program, said Paska. Theyre having a good season, and I expect a closely contested competition in this meet. This is our last meet before the Missouri Valley Conference championship, and right now were energized and ready to compete.
Diving coach Carly Weiden agreed with Paska, adding that the fact that this meet is at home gives all the competitors a little extra boost.
Since this is a home meet and senior day everyones family and friends will be here, said Weiden. I think that gives the team an extra incentive to try hard and do well.
Swimming and diving action gets underway in Horton Pool at 11 a.m., Saturday morning. The seniors will be introduced and honored before the meet begins.
