Illinois State senior Katie Laehn and her teammates are looking to rebound after a disappointing finish in last weeks Shootout at the Legends. They will be traveling to Lawrence, Kan. to compete in the Marilynn Smith Invitational on Monday.
We are very motivated as a team coming into this tournament, even though we couldnt hold our lead last week, said Laehn. It shows us that we are capable of playing with any team, that we are capable of winning, and thats what we are going to try and do.
The field consists of 12 teams, including defending champion Kansas State and 2004 NCAA finalist Oklahoma State, in addition to Denver, Kansas, Arkansas-Little Rock, Iowa, Iowa State, Wichita State, Western Illinois, UMKC and UTEP.
Along with Laehn, Samantha Richdale, Ashlie Rose, Kaila Fuller and Hilary Anderson will be competing for the Birds.
Head coach
Ray Kralis is anxious for this tournament because his team is going in with such a strong line up.
All of these girls know what needs to be done in order to be successful, said Kralis. There are several top teams here, and we are going to need a total team effort to make a statement. With our line-up, we are going in with a lot of fire power.
The team will play 36 holes on Monday, Oct. 11 beginning at 8 a.m. and will finish up with 18 holes on Tuesday.
