The Illinois State softball team will host its third annual Hit-A-Thon Sunday, Oct. 17 at 1 p.m. at Redbird Softball Complex.
The Hit-A-Thon involves community members captaining teams to help raise money for the ISU softball program. Each team will be comprised of 10 people, and if some team members do not feel comfortable stepping in the batters box then Redbird players will be available to pinch-hit.
Each team member gets five hits and the longest hit from each batter will be measured, with the teams top five hits counting towards their final score. Prizes will be awarded to the team with the longest cumulative distance and to the team that raises the most money.
Teams may provide their own pitcher or they can utilize the services of Greek Olympian and Redbird assistant coach
Tina Kramos.
Funds raised during the Hit-A-Thon will help finance the Redbirds trip to Australia Dec. 28 to Jan. 11. They will play games in both Sydney and Brisbane during this trip, which marks the second time in four years that the Birds have traveled Down Under.
We really appreciate the support and contributions of the community, whether they are participating in the event or pledging money to help the program, Redbird softball head coach
Melinda Fischer said. Their support is a huge step towards funding our trip to Australia.
Food and beverages will be available at the event and donations to the softball program can still be made by contacting
Laurie Retzer at 309/438-3633.
