The Illinois State women's soccer team scored early but couldn't hold off a late rally by Creighton to get the "W", ending the game in a 1-1 double overtime tie. With the win, the Bluejays clinched at least the No. 2 seed in the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Tournament to be held Nov. 5-7 in Des Moines, Iowa.
Creighton came out and put pressure on Redbird goalkeeper Andrea Shaw during the first 15-minutes of the match. But the 'Birds gained the momentum when a shot by Joyce Kleinheinz hit off the cross bar and fell to Robyn Brady who was able to put the ball in the net from 10-yards out.
The goal gave Illinois State a 1-0 lead and put the Bluejays in an unfamiliar position. The deficit was the first time Creighton had trailed during a match since being down 1-0 against Nebraska on Sept. 21.
But the Bluejays rallied and matched the Redbirds' score with a Kristine Willrett goal off a corner kick in the 80th minute of play.
Both teams took five shots in the overtime periods, but neither team managed to pull ahead. Illinois State drops to 7-5-3 and 2-2-2 in the Valley, while Creighton ran its record to 3-0-3 in the Valley and 7-5-4 overall.
