The Illinois State swimming and diving team was led by Krystal Featherston placing first in both the one-meter and three-meter diving events against Ball State in Muncie, Ind. Featherstons final score in the one-meter diving event was 239.17 and in the three-meter event she walked away with a final score of 244.73.
Head diving coach Carly Weiden said she is excited about Featherston placing first in both events for diving against Ball State.
This is really good for Krystal, Weiden said. She is now even closer to qualifying for regionals and our goal is to get her there.
Terra Whisman made a comeback after an injury earlier this week by placing third with a final score of 225.15 in the one-meter diving event.
Whisman stepped up tonight, said Weiden. The team dove well and I am excited about tomorrows meet against Illinois.
In the swimming circle, Christine Steinbach made a personal best time by finishing first in the 1000-yard freestyle with a final time of 10:40.93.
Head coach
Steve Paska was very proud of Steinbachs effort during the meet.
This was Christines first college meet, said Paska. She really stood up to the challenge and performed well in the 1000-yard freestyle.
Jenny Klicka took second in the 1000-yard freestyle with a final time of 10:43.48 along with teammate Jamie Haseman who made a personal best time of 10:52.38 coming in third for the Redbirds for the same event. The Redbirds lost to Ball State 191-92.
Tonight there was a lot of positive things that the swimmers did, said Paska. Ball State has a lot of depth and that is what we are working on in practice. We are trying to achieve greater depth as a team. Injuries and sickness have put a few bumps in the road but tonight we were not able to compete with an experienced team like Ball State, added Paska.
The Redbirds will be back in action Oct. 23 against the Fighting Illini this homecoming weekend. The meet will take place in Horton Pool at 7 p.m.
