Redbirds Hold Strong Against the Fighting Illini

Krystal Featherston took first place in both the one-meter diving (261.90) and three-meter diving events with a final score of 243.38. Emily LaVoie took a strong second to Featherston in the one-meter diving event with a final score of 225.60. Illinois State fell to the Illini with a final score of 149-94. Head diving coach Carly Weiden said she is proud of the way girls dove tonight. Everything went really well, said Weiden. Emily LaVoie had a really strong meet and Featherston missed qualifying for regionals by only four points. Others making splashes in the pool included swimmers Tracey Deyell and Jaimie Haseman. Both made their season best records against the Illini in the 200-yard fly. Deyell finished first and had a final time of 2:12.00 while Haseman finished fourth with a personal best time of 2:16.88. Jenny Klicka held strong throughout the 1000-yard freestyle and finished first along with a personal best time of 10:39.54. Joining Klicka in making a season best time was Simone Leger who had a solid 100-backstroke time of 102.59. Head coach Steve Paska was impressed with the athletes ability to come back after the loss to Ball State. These athletes responded well to Illinois, said Paska. They looked like a totally different team tonight and this is a major step for this part of the season. They swam well tonight and we are going to take what we did here and build off of it for the rest of the season. The Redbirds face off against Western Illinois in Macomb, Ill., Nov. 5 at 6 pm.
