Krystal Featherston was awarded Missouri Valley Conference Diver of the Week honors after finishing first in five of her six competitions during three meets last weekend.
On Friday at Ball State, the senior from Kokomo, Ind., won the three-meter event with a score of 244.73 and the one-meter event (239.17). Featherston followed up that performance with two victories in the same events against Illinois on Saturday. She took the one-meter event with a score of 261.90 and the three-meter event with a 243.38. Featherstons score on the one-meter board was just off the NCAA Regional qualifying score of 265.00.
Im really excited for Krystal, Redbird diving coach Carly Weiden said. Shes started the season really strong and I think shes going to have a great year. She missed qualifying for regionals by just three points, and for her to accomplish that score this early in the season is great.
Then Featherston, who is the first Redbird swimmer or diver to earn Valley honors this season, led the Redbirds to their first win of the season at the Illinois-Chicago Diving Invitational on Sunday. ISU beat Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Northwestern, host Illinois-Chicago and Illinois for the victory. Featherston won the one-meter event (251.90), while finishing third on the three-meter (218.35).
I just try to go out and dive the best I can to help the team, Featherston said. And it was great for us to get our first win on Sunday against some really tough teams in Chicago.
The Redbirds will be back in action at 6 p.m. Nov. 5 at Western Illinois.
