With three goals in the first half, the Illinois State women's soccer team defeated the Aces of Evansville today, 4-0 moving the 'Birds to 6-4-1 and 1-1 in the Valley.
Lauren Kahlenbeck was the first to score for the 'Birds at 17:23 off a Michelle Brumbaugh assist. Six minutes later Brumbaugh kicked one in 4-yards out on the left side of the goal from Robyn Brady. The third goal of the half came from Brady, 20 yards out off an indirect kick at the 35-minute mark.
At the half the 'Birds outshot the Aces 12-3.
"Today was a culmination of everything we have been doing, but we were able to score and played well," said head coach Pete Kowall. "We came out strong and with great energy."
In the second half, it was Heather Forsyth who scored the fourth and final goal for the 'Birds from six-yards out from the middle at 56:09 off an assist from Brumbaugh.
The 'Birds defense held the Aces to only nine total shots in the 90 minutes of action compared to the 'Birds 20 shots.
The 'Birds will continue conference play next weekend at home with Southwest Missouri on Friday at 3 p.m.and Drury on Sunday at noon.
