After nearly a month of fall baseball practice, the Illinois State baseball team will conclude the fall portion of its practice schedule this week, as the Redbirds will be split into two teams and managed by members of the local media for a three-game series.
This is always one of my favorite events during the year, said head coach Jim Brownlee. The media gets to critique me when I manage so I enjoy getting to critique them when they step out here onto the field.
Members from AM 1230 WJBC, The Pantagraph and the Daily Vidette are scheduled to lead one of the two teams.
After three weeks of practice, Brownlee knows his players are looking forward to the series.
Our guys are really looking forward to this, said Brownlee. Practice can get a little monotonous, especially for the returning players that have been around. But once you get to put on that full uniform, the intensity goes up and our guys take this very seriously. The winners have bragging rights until the spring.
The three game series will begin on Tuesday and conclude Thursday. Each game will be a seven-inning contest and begin at Redbird Field at 3:30.
