After being selected to the 2004 CoSIDA All-District V Womens Soccer team, Kanisha Campbell and Heather Forsyth were named to the 2004 Valley Scholar-Athlete Team. Campbell carries a 3.68 in biological sciences, while Forsyth carries a 3.25 in special education.
Campbell, a sophomore for the Redbirds in 2004, was an All-Valley First team selection, while helping the Birds to a 10-6-4 record. Campbell came on strong mid-way through the season recording goals in the wins over Drury, Northern Iowa and the tie against SMS.
An All-Valley second team selection, Forsyth, a junior for the Redbirds, was unable to finish the 2004 season as she suffered a broken leg in the game against Creighton. While playing in only 15 games for the Birds, Forsyth recorded three goals. As a defender, she helped lead the Birds to victory over No. 11 Illinois, 1-0.
Both Kanisha and Heather have worked very hard on and off the field, head coach Pete Kowall said. Its very nice for the two of them to get those kind of awards. I know that they are very deserving of the honor and Im proud of them. Its always great to get that kind of recognition from the league.
Student-athletes must be starters or important reserves with a GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale in order to qualify for this honor. In addition, the student-athlete must have participated in at least 75% of the regular season matches, be at least a sophomore in athletic and academic standing and have complete at least one full academic year at their institution.
