Illinois States Lorenzo Gordon received the first piece of hardware for the 2004-05 Illinois State basketball team last week after he was named to the all-tournament team at the BCA Classic. Following his stellar showing at the three-game tournament, Gordon has been honored again, this time as the Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week.
Gordon averaged 18.3 points and seven rebounds in Illinois States three games in Milwaukee. In Gordons first game, he dropped 26 points on Penn State, the highest total by any Redbird in his first game during the Division I era.
In the third place game of the tournament, Gordon was dominant against Mississippi, scoring 22 points and grabbing 10 rebounds, notching his first double-double at Illinois State.
Redbird fans get a chance to see Gordon and the Birds Monday evening, as they open up their home schedule against Truman State at 7:05 p.m. at Redbird Arena.
