Kabbes on Scholar-Athlete Team

Volleyball media relations contacts elected Illinois States Emily Kabbes to the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete First Team. The junior middle blocker who leads the Redbirds in blocks this season has a 3.61 grade point average in Elementary Education. Kabbes, who was an honorable mention Scholar-Athlete Team cholce last season, was a finalist for 2004 Scholar-Athlete of the Year at Illinois State. She was a second-team all-Valley selection last year and a 2004 Preseason All-Missouri Valley choice who has earned Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week honors twice this season and Prairie Farms-Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week once. The 2002 graduate of Bloomington Central Catholic High School is No. 7 in the Valley in blocks this season and is one of only three juniors in Redbird history with 300 or more career blocks and one of only eight Redbird juniors to surpass 800 career kills. The 13-player team represents seven Valley teams and has five repeat selections from 2003. The Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete Team is selected along the lines of the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America teams elected by CoSIDA, the College Sports Information Directors of America.
