Senior guard Trey Guidry scored 15 of his game high 19 points in the first half to lead the Illinois State mens basketball team to a 84-55 exhibition victory over Missouri-St. Louis Wednesday night at Redbird Arena.
The Redbirds used a 19-4 first half run to take control of the game early. Guidry scored 10 of his 15 first half points during the run, while the Rivermen missed 13 straight field goals and coughed up eight turnovers. Guidry opened the game by hitting his first six shots and he finished 6-for-7 in the first frame.
In the second half, the Redbirds led by as many as 31 points thanks to a 9-1 run in which Ronnie Carlwell tossed in four points, including a fast break dunk. Junior college transfer Lorenzo Gordon finished with 17 points, while Greg Dilligard tossed in 16 to round out the Redbirds leading scorers.
The Rivermen had three players in double figures led by Joey Paul with 19 points and Jonathan Griffin and Aaron Green each tossed in 15 and 14 points respectively.
Tonight was ISUs lone public exhibition this season. The Redbirds will travel to Ball State this Saturday for a private head-to-head scrimmage and practice session against the Cardinals before opening the season on Nov. 14 against Penn State in the first round of the BCA Classic at Milwaukee, Wis.
