Entering Fridays semi-final game of the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Tournament, several Illinois State womens soccer team members have been honored not only for their achievement on the field, but in the classroom as well. Most notably Kanisha Campbell and Heather Forsyth have been selected to the College Sport Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District V Second Team.
Campbell, a native of Brampton, Ontario, carries a 3.68 GPA in biological sciences and Forsyth, a native of Burlington, Ontario carries a 3.25 GPA in special education. Student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve with a GPA of at least 3.2 on a 4.0 scale in order to qualify for this honor.
While Campbell and Forsyth were honored for their academics they were also honored by the Missouri Valley Conference for their performance on the field. Goalkeeper Andrea Shaw, forward Robyn Brady and mid-fielder Campbell were each selected to the All-Valley First Team. Shaw, a native of Lakeville, Minn., has played in goal every game this year for the Birds recording four shut outs and 75 saves. Brady hails from London, Ontario, and has recorded three goals and four assists for ten points. Campbell came on strong mid-way through the season, scoring three goals for Illinois State.
Forsyth, the 2003 Missouri Valley Conference MVP, was named to the All-Valley Second Team for her defensive effort and three goals. Lauren Kahlenbeck, a native of Aurora, Ill., earned honorable mention honors while Shannon Duggan, a native of Beaumont, Alberta was selected to the All-Freshman Team.
The Birds will take on the Drake Bulldogs at 5 p.m. November 5 for the semi-final game of the State Farm Missouri Valley Tournament in Des Moines, Iowa at the Cownie Soccer Complex. The winner will advance to the championship game on Sunday at 1 p.m.
