Birds to Host Softball Clinics

Illinois State head softball coach Melinda Fischer and the Redbirds invite area youth to attend two softball clinics in Horton Field House over winter break: the Hitting and Pitching Clinic and the Developmental Softball Clinic. Sunday, December 19, the Redbirds Hitting and Pitching Clinic will take place from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. During the hitting clinic, players will have the chance to learn and execute the fundamentals of hitting all pitch locations. Pitchers will learn the four basic pitches (rise, drop, curve and change), pitching strategies and different pitching techniques. This clinic is open to kids in grades 7-12; however, athletes in grades 9-12 must abide by the IHSA rule, which states that there can be no more than two athletes from the same high school in each clinic. The cost of the clinic, which includes instruction, insurance, lunch and an ISU softball t-shirt, is $90. The Redbird Developmental Softball Clinic will be held Sunday, January 16 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The purpose of this clinic is to help players develop the fundamental skills necessary to become successful softball players. Participants, who must be in grades 2-8, will be grouped according to age and skill level. The cost of this clinic is $55, which includes lunch and an ISU softball t-shirt. Players should bring their own equipment to each of the clinics.
