Grigsby Joins Fifth All-America Team; Hoffman, Davis Also Honored

Illinois State linebacker Boomer Grigsby earned his fifth all-America honor of the year when he was named to the CollegeSportsReport.com 2004 All-America team Friday. Grigsby earned first team honors, while punter Ryan Hoffman claimed second team honors and offensive lineman Stafford Davis was named an honorable mention all-American. Grigsby, the only three-time defensive player of the year in conference history, capped off his storied career with the NCAA, Gateway and Illinois State career tackle records with 580 stops. He has received all-America honors from the American Football Coaches Association, Associated Press, The Sports Network and the Walter Camp Foundation. Hoffman led the conference in punting with a 44.0 average. He is also ISUs career punting average leader with 42.2 yard average. Davis started all 11 games for the Redbirds this season and has started all 34 games in his career. The native of Orange Park, Fla., led the team with 140 knockdowns, while only having three missed assignments all season. In two games, Davis recorded 20-plus knockdowns.
