The Illinois State baseball team will not begin playing games until February, but in the eyes of head coach Jim Brownlee, the team had a major victory Monday by sponsoring a very successful blood drive on campus.
Our players really did a great job getting the word out and getting people to come and donate, said Brownlee. As busy as everyone is this time of year, I think the great turnout speaks volumes about the type of people we have on this campus as well as in this community.
Over 80 people showed up to donate on Monday, and the American Red Cross was able to collect 64 units of blood. According to the Red Cross, each unit can be broken down into components of three; meaning over 190 lives will be saved by Mondays donations.
There were also 20 first-time donors who showed up to give their support.
The 20 new people that donated is unbelievable, added Brownlee. If someone will donate just one time, thats all it may take to get them to come back and donate for the rest of their lives. Its really a very impressive thing.
