Mens Golf Ready for Spring Action

The Illinois State mens golf team will swing into action against the 21st ranked University of Illinois at the Coral Creek Club in Port Charlotte, Fla., Saturday, February 14, in match play. The Illinois/Illinois State Golf Match is the first competition of the spring season for both teams. Head Coach Harland Kilborn is looking forward to the opportunity this presents for the Birds. This is a perfect avenue for the guys to go down and play and be competitve without having to worry about how it will affect their averages, Kilborn said. Six players will make the trip to Florida, including senior Brian Anderson, junior Kyle Vasel, junior Denny Bull, sophomore Matt Maskel, junior Dustin Edwards and sophomore Kris Wildenradt. Everybody who is going has made good strides, Kilborn said. Everybody is on the right track, and I think playing in Florida will give them a chance to work on any weaknesses. Two rounds of match play will determine the winner. Kilborn views this as an opportunity to prepare for the first tournament in San Antonio March 1 and 2.
