The Missouri Valley Conference awarded Liina Suurvarik Tennis Athlete of the Week for her performance against No. 18 South Alabama on Thursday, February 12.
Playing in the No. 1 spot in singles competition, the 42nd ranked Suurvarik defeated South Alabamas No. 85 Katarina Palenikova 6-4, 6-3. Suurvarik was the only Redbird to walk away with a win in singles over South Alabama.
Suurvarik continued her winning streak when she teamed up with Katri Miller in the No. 1 doubles position to beat Palenikova and Catherine Perkins, 9-7, 7-4. The duo of Suurvarik and Miller were also the only winners in doubles for ISU.
The Birds return to action against University of Louisville on Sunday, February 22 at 2:00 p.m. in Louisville, Kentucky.
