Illinois State head coach Kristin Montero will lead her gymnastics team to Champaign, Ill., Friday, for a dual meet against Monteros Alma Mater, the University of Illinois.
The meet is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. at Huff Hall on the Illinois campus.
The teams have met once already this season, on January 31st at Ohio State. In that meeting, Illinois defeated the Birds, 194.850-190.175.
Montero feels that her team has improved greatly since that first meeting and is eager to show off these improvements.
We have seen U of I once already this season when we both traveled to Ohio State, said Montero. I feel that we are more confident at this point in the season and will feel very comfortable at Huff Hall.
Illinois will offer great competition, Montero continued. But we are ready to show them how we have improved over the last few weeks.
The Redbirds enter Fridays competition after two February 20th losses to conference team, Illinois-Chicago and non-conference foe, Iowa. These losses pushed Illinois State to 2-10 overall, and 0-2 in the Midwest Independent Conference.
Illinois sits at 6-4, coming off a February 21st win over Ball State, 195.45-192.25.
