Birds Look For Balanced Attack

Liina Suurvarik and Katri Miller look to continue their winning ways as they lead the Illinois State womens tennis team into action this weekend against IUPUI and St. Louis. Suurvarik, who is 4-1 for the spring season, is looking to extend her singles match victories to four in a row. Suurvarik and Miller are also on a winning streak in doubles matches, having won three straight at the No. 1 position. Miller, who is 3-2 for the spring season in singles, will be trying to gain her second straight singles win playing at the No. 2 position. Both IUPUI and the Redbirds are 2-3 overall and are coming off losses to Louisville. The Birds played against St. Louis last year and defeated the Billikens, 7-0. Coming off of inconsistent play in the middle of the line-up against Louisville, head coach Chris Hoover is looking at changing the match-ups this weekend. I expect the whole team to step up and win this weekend, Hoover said. Both teams match up to us pretty well, I think if we come out and do what we are supposed to do, we should be successful. The Birds travel to IUPUI on Friday, February 27 and begin play at 7:00 p.m. ISU will return home on Sunday, February 29 against St. Louis at the Evergreen Racquet Club. The match will start at 1:00 p.m. -- 30 --
