Gymnasts to Missouri for Second Meet of Weekend

Traveling to Cape Girardeau, Mo. for the second meet of the weekend, the Illinois State gymnastics team will take on the Otahkians of Southeast Missouri State, Sunday at 1 p.m. The dual meet will take place at the Houck Field House on the campus of Southeast Missouri State. This conference match-up will be the second meeting of the teams for the season, as well as the second competition in three days for the Birds. Illinois State goes to Champaign, Ill. on Friday evening for a dual meet against the Illinois Fighting Illini. Illinois State head coach Kristin Montero sees the back-to-back competitions as an opportunity for her team to rise to the occasion. Coming off of a good meet Friday night could be a great transition into Sunday at SEMO, said Montero. It is difficult physically to compete with almost no turn-around time, but if the team has the right mentality we can have a great day against SEMO. I think it helps that we are competing against teams that we have seen before this season, Montero continued. It makes competing in such a short time frame more comfortable. The first meeting between Illinois State and SEMO was a triangular meet hosted by the Birds at Horton Field House, and also featured Wisconsin-Oshkosh. The tri-meet ended in a first-place finish for the Otahkians, as they carded a winning score of 193.750. SEMO improved to 10-2 on the season, coming off a February 21st, 194.075-189.600 victory over Wisconsin-La Crosse The win makes Southeast a perfect 4-0 in Houck Field House this year. Hosting the conference meet against Illinois State on Sunday will be SEMOs fifth and final home meet of the season. -- 30 --
