Womens Golf in Eleventh Place After Day One

The Illinois State womens golf team sits in 11th place after the opening round of the Lady Moc Classic in Lakeland, Fla. Sophomore Ashlie Rose led the Redbirds (330) by shooting a 79 and is tied for 14th place individually. Samantha Richdale was next for the Birds, carding an 82 and is tied for 38th, while Ashlee Johnson (59th) and Sarah Loomis (69th) are not far behind, carding an 84 and 85 respectfully. Kaila Fuller rounds out the Illinois State scoring with a 91 and is tied for 96th place. The host Florida Southern Lady Mocs sit in first place with a 304, followed closely behind by Rollins College with a 306. While the Birds sit alone in 11th place, they are only 10 strokes behind Nova Southeastern and Middle Tennessee St. (320) for 4th place overall. Pamela Feggans of Florida Southern and Jessica Trein of Daytona Beach CC are both tied for the individual lead, each firing a 72. Head coach Ray Kralis had been anticipating these warm weather trips and was looking forward to getting back onto the golf course. Since we have not had the luxury of playing outside in the recent months, today was challenging, Kralis said. If we concentrate on what we worked on this winter, we will soon be better than we were when we completed our fall season. Round two of the three day event tees off at 8 a.m. Monday and concludes with the final 18 holes on Tuesday.
