Rebecca Lobo, a former WNBA player and current motivational speaker, will make a trip to Redbird Arena on March 24 to give a speech on motivation and overcoming adversity.
The event begins at 7 p.m. and Lobo will be introduced by current Redbird womens basketball coach Robin Pingeton. A question and answer session will follow and Lobo will also be available after the event for autograph and photo opportunities. The event is open to the public and is free of charge. Parking will be available in the Turner Hall lot and the lot north of Horton Field House.
Lobo, a former New York Liberty and Houston Comets star, was a standout player during her days with the University of Connecticut basketball team. She received numerous academic honors as a member of the Huskies, being named a 1995 Rhodes Scholar and a NCAA top scholar-athlete. She also received the Associated Press Female Athlete of the Year, National Athlete of the Year and NCAA Woman of the Year awards during her days as a student-athlete.
She was the youngest member of the 1996 U.S. Womens Olympic basketball team, helping her team win a gold medal in Atlanta.
Lobo is also active in charitable work, taking part in the Childrens Miracle Network, and serving as the spokesperson for the Lee National Denim Day, which raises money for breast cancer research.
