Womens tennis player Liina Suurvarik was honored Wednesday as the Prairie Farms/Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week for the period of March 17-23.
This marks the third time Suurvarik, a senior from Tallin, Estonia, has been honored as scholar-athlete of the week. Suurvarik carries a 3.92 cumulative grade-point average in international business. Last week, she teamed with Katri Miller to win at No. 1 doubles, while Suurvarik recorded a 2-6, 6-0, 7-6 win over Butlers Christina Laun at No. 1 singles.
Liinas been fortunate to win so many accolades and shes deserving of them all, Illinois State womens tennis head coach Chris Hoover said. She set an unbelievable mark for career wins at Illinois State and continues to perform in the classroom. Shes done really well.
To qualify for Prairie Farms/Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week, student-athletes must carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.00, completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing. In addition to the academic qualifications, student-athletes are evaluated on their athletic performance for a one-week period.
