The Illinois State womens golf team will be spending their spring break in exotic St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, for the St. Croix Collegiate Classic March 12-14. This is the inaugural year for the tournament, which is hosted by Xavier University and being held at the par 72, 6,020-yard Carambola Golf Club.
After coming off a sixth place finish in the Lady Moc Classic in Lakeland, Fla., the team once again heads for warm weather to gear up for the Midwest tournaments and the MVC Championship in April.
Head coach
Ray Kralis feels that these trips will be beneficial down the stretch.
Now that we have had a chance to get outside, we can focus on handling areas of the game that we can control, Kralis said. That certainly includes our minds, attitudes and emotions. This will be our main point of emphasis, so that we will soon be better than we were in the fall and be ready for the Midwest tournaments in April.
Fifteen teams are scheduled to compete in the Classic, including other Midwest schools such as Illinois, Notre Dame, and Rend Lake CC, as well as Valley foe Wichita State.
Carambola Golf Club is a Robert Trent Jones, Sr., designed course that was built in 1966 by Lawrence Rockefeller. It is a classic tropical course that rolls over low hills and features water on six holes. The island of St. Croix offers spectacular weather, with an average temperature in the 80s.
