Junior Trey Guidry scored all of his 22 points in the second half including 18 of Illinois States 20-7 second half run that secured a 76-56 first round victory over Bradley at the 2004 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Tournament Friday.
With the victory, Illinois State improved to 10-18 on the season and advanced to face No. 2 seed Northern Iowa on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. Bradley finished the season with a 15-16 record.
The Redbirds led 29-25 at the intermission, but Bradley opened the second frame with a 10-0 run and took a 35-29 lead. The Birds responded with a 9-0 spurt to take a 38-35 edge, but a three-pointer by Bradleys Phillip Gilbert at the 13:03 mark knotted the score, 38-38, paving the way for Guidrys second-half effort.
Guidry scored 18 of the Redbirds next 20 points, including three treys and five free throws. The run gave the Birds a lead they would never relinquish. Bradley closed the gap to nine points, but Illinois State extended it to 20 for the games final margin.
Guidry led all scorers with 22 points, while Gregg Alexander chipped in 15, including a 9-for-10 effort from the line. Vince Greene tossed in 12 and extended his consecutive free throw streak to 42.
Gilbert led the Braves with 16 tallies and James Gillingham tossed in 12 points.
