Djordje Uskokovic responded to a loss yesterday with a straight set victory Sunday, as he lead the Illinois State mens tennis team (8-10, 4-2) over Creighton, 7-0 at the McCormick Courts, in Normal, Ill.
Uskokovic defeated Tom McCarthy in the No. 1 position, 6-1, 6-2 to bring his season wins total to 13-13.
Uskokovic was not the only Bird who was flying high on Sunday, however, as the Redbirds would collect all six singles points, only dropping one set in the process.
Guillermo Gomez added to his team leading singles wins total by toppling Eduardo Pignatari in the No. 5 spot in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2. Gomez is now 16-8 in singles competition.
Head coach Greg Kennett was very pleased with the way his team performed.
We played very well today, Kennett said. I think that we had a good focus today and were really set to play when the match began.
The Redbirds return to action April 16 against Missouri Valley Conference rival Southwest Missouri State, in Springfield, Mo.
