Cappuccitti to Represent Illinois State at Leadership Conference

Tennis player Ben Cappuccitti was selected to represent Illinois State at the 2004 NCAA Leadership Conference May 30 through June 3 in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, the NCAA announced recently. Cappuccitti was selected among 1,175 nominations from 295 institutions. Out of those nominations, a total of 324 student-athletes were selected to participate in this years conference. The conference will take place at Disneys Wide World of Sports Complex and Coronado Springs Resort. Football player Stephen Carroll was selected as an alternate should Cappuccitti be unable to make the trip. Cappuccittis leadership qualities caught the eye of his coach almost immediately. Ben is a natural leader, Illinois State mens tennis head coach Greg Kennett said. He has been a leader of this team since he got here and I think its great for him to showcase his skills in front of other great leaders. Jane Fulton, assistant athletics director for academics and life skills, said that the NCAA nominates student-athletes on their work in the community, classroom and as a member of their respective team. Ben is very active in the community and a very good representative for us the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, Fulton said. Hes really a total student-athlete. Its a great honor for him and Illinois State to have a representative at this conference.
