Redbirds Flock North to DeKalb

Just two days removed from sweeping the No. 1 team in the conference, the Illinois State softball team travels to DeKalb, Ill. tomorrow for a contest against Northern Illinois at 5 p.m. The game was originally scheduled for Wednesday, April 28, but was moved due to the Senior Athletic Banquet. The Redbirds (29-15-1) hold a 54-31 advantage over the Huskies in the all-time series. Last season, ISU beat Northern Illinois 1-0 in Normal. The Birds recorded the lone run of the game in the sixth inning off an RBI double by Kate Stake. Illinois State will look to score more runs against the Huskies this year as theyve outscored their last four opponents a combined 22-5. NIU, which is 12-35 on the season, is in the midst of a three-game losing streak, while the Birds are on a five-game winning streak. Common opponents this season include Minnesota, Drake, Western Illinois, Iowa and DePaul. ISU is 8-1-1 against those foes and Northern Illinois is 2-6.
