Head coach Denver Johnson completed his coaching staff with the hiring of Tim Daoust on Friday.
Daoust (pronounced DOWST), who spent the last two seasons as a graduate assistant at Northern Illinois, will work with the Redbird cornerbacks, while defensive coordinator Ron Lambert will focus on the triangle positions outside linebackers and safeties.
This is a great opportunity to join a program on the rise, Daoust said. Coach Johnson is accomplishing some great things here and I hope to bring some of the things that I picked up along the way from Coach (Joe) Novak. This is a great community and Bloomington-Normal is an attractive place to recruit football players. Im just really looking forward to this opportunity.
Daoust, a native of Toledo, Ohio, assisted with the Northern Illinois secondary last season and helped lead the Huskies to a 10-2 record, the most regular season wins in the programs history.
Tims bright and energetic, Johnson said. Hes knowledgeable about the game and profession and has a great presence and presentation about himself. Hes a high-energy guy and one that our defensive kids will enjoy being associated with.
Prior to serving as a graduate assistant, Daoust was a four-year letterwinner at Wittenberg, in Springfield, Ohio, as a defensive lineman. He helped lead the Tigers to a 45-5 record, four North Coast Athletic Conference championships and four NCAA Division III Playoff appearances over his four-year career. In 2001, Daoust was named first team All-NCAC following up his second team performance in 2000. The two-time team captain also claimed the Golden Helmet Award twice during his career.
Daoust earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in history at Wittenberg in 2001. This May, he will graduate with a Masters Degree in education from Northern Illinois.
