Anderson Moves Into Second While Birds Take Third

Senior Brian Anderson hit two under par in the final round of the Branson Creek Invitational to move from third to second place, while the Illinois State mens golf team hit a 289 to hold onto third. Brian has now set a standard for himself, he wont be happy unless he is shooting under par, head coach Harland Kilborn said. Anderson (70-71-69=210) shaved two strokes off his three-round personal best, which was set at the last tournament, the Stevinson Ranch Invitational. In the past three tournaments Anderson has finished in the top ten. But, these facts are not on Andersons mind. I havent thought about that [the stats], it just comes down to having a good mindset. I have learned the mental aspect of the game is the biggest part, Anderson said. At this tournament all five guys were able to contribute, which was a big help for the team. Kilborn agrees the Birds had a lineup that worked well this week. Everyone had solid play and it was a good team effort, Kilborn said. Each week it can be difficult to determine who will work, and this tournament we were able to have all five guys add to our success. Chris Eddy (76-72-73=221) finished 21st after carding a three-round total of 221, which is his new personal best. Matt Maskel (75-76-73=224), Kyle Vasel (73-77-74=224) and Walter Brown (80-69-75=224) all fired a 224 and tied for 27th. The three-round total of 224 ties Kyle Vasels personal best. Playing as an individual, Dustin Edwards (79-74-79=232) tied for 47th. The guys were able to play well against a lot of good solid teams, Kilborn said. Oklahoma City (283-285-274=842) was able to hold onto first place, while Nebraska (294-285-291=870) remained in second, as the Birds (294-288-289=871) stayed in third. The remainder of the field is as follows: 4. Murray State (303-292-290=885), 5. SMS (303-288-298=889), 6. Western Illinois (298-302-291=891) and St. Louis University (294-302-295=891), 8. Northern Iowa (301-295-307=903) and Southern Illinois (313-295-295=903), 10. Bradley (310-307-301=918), 11. Creighton (313-308-324=945). Oklahoma Citys Tyrone Van Aswegen (68-70-65=203) earned medalist honors, Anderson took second and Andreas Rydholm (70-73-69=212) from Oklahoma City moved into third. The Birds will compete again April 12-13 at the Indian Golf Classic.
