Anderson and Birds Look to Continue Their Success

Senior Brian Anderson will look to build off his recent achievements of two Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the Week honors, and three top ten finishes in the past three tournaments, as he and the Illinois State mens golf teams head to Jonesboro, Ark. for the Indian Golf Classic, April 12-13. Head Coach Harland Kilborn sees this success as a advantage and hopes to continue the momentum for this tournament and the Valley championship. Brian continues to be on a hot streak, and that confidence in his game will help a lot for this tournament and hopefully for the Valley, Kilborn said. As a team we are coming off a nice finish and I hope to see that continue into our play this week. The 6,539-yard, par 72 Ridge Point Country Club is traditionally a challenge for the Birds, due to its tight shots. Kilborn feels the team will have to adjust to a different style of play for this course. This course is unique and different, it is tighter and trickier than we are used to, Kilborn said. It will be a challenge for our guys. Joining Anderson will be junior Kyle Vasel, sophomore Matt Maskel, sophomore Chris Eddy, and sophomore Kris Wildenradt. We have definitely been more consistent in all phases, but there is still room for improvement, Kilborn said. I think the guys are feeling more confident every time which will help our play. The Birds will face a field of 18 schools, including host school Arkansas State, Valley foes UNI and SMS, and six schools ranked tin the top-100 in the GolfStat rankings. The first day of action for the ASU Indian Golf Classic begins Monday, April 12 with a double shot gun.
