Redbirds Set for Final Homestand of the Season

Djordje Uskokovic will be looking to bring his singles record above the .500 mark for the first time since October, as he leads the Illinois State mens tennis team (7-9, 3-0) into a critical final homestand this weekend in matches against Missouri Valley Conference foes Drake and Creighton. Uskokovic was moved into the No. 1 singles spot due to injuries, and has handled the move with ease, winning four out of six matches since taking over the top spot for the Redbirds. Uskokovic and his fellow Birds could be facing their biggest match of the season to date when they face Drake Friday. ISU is currently a half match behind Drake in the Valley and would pull ahead of the Bulldogs with a win. The Redbirds will have the luxury of facing Drake at home, however, where they have been almost unbeatable this season, as they are 4-1 entering this weekends matches. The Birds will also face Creighton on Sunday. Last years match with Creighton marked a milestone in Redbird tennis history, as Jason Smit passed Mike Miller as the all-time doubles wins leader. The Redbirds match with Drake is slated to begin at 1 p.m. Saturday, at the McCormick Courts, and Sundays match with Creighton will get underway at 10 a.m., also at the McCormick Courts in Normal. --##--
