Samantha Richdales third round of the NCAA Womens Golf Championship took place on Thursday without any delays.
Richdale finished the final five holes of the second round Thursday morning after lightning cut short her day on Wednesday. The sophomore from Kelowna, British Columbia played 23 holes Thursday, firing a 2-over-par 74 in round two and a 5-over-par 77 in round three. She currently sits at plus+8 for the tournament with one round to go.
The fourth and final round begins Friday with Richdale set to tee off at 8:50 a.m.
Richdale finished round two hitting par on four of the final five holes, while shooting for bogey on 16. Round three started off with problems though, especially at one, where she triple bogeyed. Richdale rebounded with a birdie at four, but double bogeyed at six and finished the front nine at plus+4.
Illinois State head coach
Ray Kralis felt that Richdale played the round with a very positive attitude despite starting off with a triple bogey.
Her score today wasnt reflective of how she played, Kralis said. Samantha hung in there and kept fighting even after the triple bogey. It doesnt do yourself any good to lose your composure, and she stayed composed throughout the entire round.
For Richdale, putting the first hole behind her was the only thing she could do.
It was a little disappointing, but I had to move on, Richdale said. I kept giving myself birdie opportunities. Eventually they are going to fall.
Richdale rebounded on the back nine where she finished at plus+1. She kicked things off by hitting for par at ten and 11, and birdied 12 and 14.
Theres no feeling like we need to get out to the range and practice, Kralis said. Shes driving the ball very well and putting herself in very good position for birdies. The putts just havent been falling.
Richdale certainly feels good about her chances tomorrow.
Im starting to hit the ball better and feeling very confident, Richdale said.
