Senior Walter Brown was selected to the Missouri Valley Conference mens golf scholar-athlete first team, after finishing the season with a top ten finish in the MVC Championship.
Walter never gave up this season. He kept working hard, head coach Harland Kilborn said. He always stayed sharp and on top of things.
Brown was also selected for the 2004 MVC All-Conference team after placing sixth at the Conference Championship, helping the Birds into a second place finish. Brown was the only mens golf student-athlete to earn first-team all-conference and first-team scholar-athlete honors.
He scored his personal three round best of 218 and single round best of 68 at the D.A. Weibring this fall, where the Redbirds took first. Brown has the second lowest stroke average on the team with a 74.1.
When your traveling it can be difficult to get everything done and stay focused, Brown said. You just have to be willing to put in the work it takes.
Brown, a political science major and athletic coaching minor, has a 3.32 G.P.A., and is a five-time member of the AFNI Honor Roll. He will graduate Saturday and plans on attending law school sometime in the future.
