Director of athletics Perk Weisenburger issued a statement Thursday in response to the press release that was distributed Wednesday by Gary Geisler, an attorney representing former Illinois State mens basketball player Michael Sams.
Everyone associated with Illinois State University and its Department of Intercollegiate Athletics has treated Michael Sams and his family with integrity, courtesy and respect, while following all University and NCAA policies to the letter, Weisenburger said. Because this is now a matter of pending litigation, Illinois State will reserve all further comments to appropriate legal processes.
