Suurvarik Awarded All-American Honor

Former Illinois State womens tennis player Liina Suurvarik was honored as a Second Team Academic All-American by CoSIDA on Thursday. With the honor Suurvarik became the 27th student-athlete in Illinois State history to receive national academic all-America honors, and the 14th in the past four years. Suurvarik was the only member of the Missouri Valley Conference to earn first or second team accolades. To be considered for Academic All-American status from CoSIDA a student-athlete must first be awarded district honors, and is then nominated for inclusion on the national at-large ballot. This award comes to Suurvarik following a stellar four-year career, where she became the winningest singles and doubles player in Redbird history with 133 singles wins and 117 doubles wins. The Tallin, Estonia native also boasted a 3.92 GPA and received her bachelors degree in International Business this spring. ###
