Senior wide receiver Avery Massengale was declared ineligible on Wednesday, for academic reasons, and will be forced to sit out the entire 2004 campaign.
Massengale played in six games during the 2003 season with 13 catches for 155 yards and one touchdown. The Bolingbrook, Ill., native had an impressive training camp and was slated to be one of the teams top reserves behind starters Ramon Barber and Laurnt Robinson.
Replacing Massengale at receiver, one of the Redbirds deepest positions, on the depth chart is true freshman Kevett Mickle. Kyle Hill, Pierre Jackson, Dan Passarelli, Jason Horton, Brian Busser and Marcus Hayden will also help solidify the ISU passing attack.
The Redbirds open the season on September 2, when they host Saint Xavier in the season opener at Hancock Stadium.
