Birds Take on Billikens of Saint Louis

The Illinois State womens soccer team will look to continue its success on the field as they take on the Billikikens of Saint Louis at 4 p.m. Tuesday afternoon at Adelaide Street Field. We are really looking forward to playing Saint Louis, said head coach Pete Kowall. They are a very talented team and well coached. They also compete in a very strong conference league. The Billikens, who are 0-0-1, began their season with a tie against Oklahoma. In 2003 they ended the season with a 14-5-3 record while finishing fourth in Conference USA at 6-3-1. The Billikens are returning seven starters and 14 letterwinners from last years squad. The Billikens are coached by Tim Champion with assistance from Kelly Young and goalkeeper coach Brian Korbesmeyer. The Birds are currently sitting with a 1-0 record on the season and look to improve on that in the Tuesday afternoon match-up. The last time the Birds and the Billikens met on the field was in 1996 and the gamed ended in a tie, 1-1. Sophomore defender Amanda Lauber will not be seen on the field for the Birds in the next four to six weeks due to a knee injury she suffered in the first exhibition game. Lauber played in 20 games last year while making seven starts to lead all freshman.
